PRESENT SIMPLE/SIMPLE PRESENT

Hello folks!! How have you been?? Let’s practice, study and share our English doubts and ideas about the Simple Present Tense/Present Simple tense!! Hereeeee weeee goooo!!!

The simple present tense in English is used to describe an action that is regular, true or normal. We use the Simple Present:

1. For habits/routines;

• Yasmim brushes her teeth twice a day.

2. For repeated or regular actions in the present time period;

• Michael sleeps eight hours every night during the week.

3. For facts;

• The USA President lives in The White House.

In general, in the third person(He/She/It) we add 'S' in the third person.

Subject	Verb	The Rest of the sentence
I / you / we / they	speak / learn	English at home
he / she / it	speaks/ learns	English at home

1. For verbs that end in -O, -CH, -SH, -SS, -X, or -Z we add -ES in the third person(He/She/It).

Examples:

• go – goes
• catch – catches
• wash – washes
• kiss – kisses
• fix – fixes
• buzz – buzzes

2. For verbs that end in a consonant + Y, we remove the Y and add -IES.

Examples:

• marry – marries
• study – studies
• carry – carries
• worry – worries

AFFIRMATIVE FORM

You cook every night.

She cooks every night.

I / you / we / they	go	to school on Fridays.
he / she / it	goes	to school on Fridays.

NEGATIVE FORM

You don’t swim on Saturdays.

She doesn’t swim at night.

he / she / it	doesn't

INTERROGATIVE FORM

Do you play chess?

Does she like ice cream and vegetables?

Do/Does	Subject	Verb*	The Rest of the sentence
Do	I / you / we / they	dance dance	Salsa every Friday?
Does	he / she / it

NOTE: WE only put “S”, “ES” or “IES” in the AFFIRMATIVE FORM USING HE/SHE/IT!!!
