INDEFINITE ARTICLE "A / AN"

Hello guys!! How are you doing?? I hope you guys can enjoy, practice and check a little bit about this easy and simple grammar subject!! Let's talk about the INDEFINITE ARTICLES "A / AN".



"A" is used in front of singular and countable nouns that begin:

  • with a consonant sound;
Example: Jane and Peter live in a house.


  • with "U" when it has a /yu/ sound;
Example: Yara is a university student.


"AN" is used in front of singular countable nouns and words that begin:
  • with the vowels "A,E,I and O";
Example: I work in an office.


  • with "U" when it has a vowel sound;
Example: Susan doesn't have an uncle.

  • with a mute "H";
Example: The dentist will see you in an hour.
